How To Install Mud Flaps On A Car

How to Install WeatherTech Mud Flaps

Does your vehicle have mud flaps? If not, it might be time to think about investing in a set. They're a fantastic way to protect your vehicle's paint and undercarriage from dents, chips and scratches caused by rocks, dirt, sand, salt and more. Mud flaps also serve another purpose; they can help protect your vehicle's frame and other sensitive parts from unseen rust and corrosion. Not to mention they can also help protect other vehicles on the road from debris kicked up by your tires.

Thankfully, WeatherTech has made installing mud flaps a breeze. WeatherTech's No-drill MudFlaps are laser measured to fit your vehicle's exact make and model and install in minutes without the need for wheel/tire removal and without the need to drill into your vehicle's painted surface. If you've already picked up a set, keep reading for some quick tips and tricks on how to install your mud flaps! Otherwise make sure to purchase yours today!

Please note: Always refer to the instructions provided with your product for the most comprehensive installation instructions.

Thoroughly Clean Your Vehicle Before Installing Mud Flaps

While you might be tempted to immediately start installing your brand new mud flaps, it's important to take the time to properly prepare the area (and your vehicle). Make sure to take special care in removing all dirt, debris and stains from your vehicle's fender areas where the mud flaps will be installed. Any dirt or debris left behind may make installation more difficult or may potentially lead to rust or corrosion on your vehicle.

Work on a Level Surface

Make sure to park your vehicle on level ground with the wheels turned fully to the left (to install the driver's side mud flap and all the way to the right for passenger side installation).

Identify and Align the Proper Mud Flap

Begin with removing the factory fasteners with the required tools. Make sure to save these for later!

The mud flaps included in your kit (either front, rear or both) should be clearly marked for the driver's side or passenger side of your vehicle. Simply flip over the mud flap and you will see a LH (designating that part as the driver's side) or an RH (designating that part as the passenger side). Start with installing the driver's side mud flap first, and line it up to the wheel well in which it will be installed. The pre-drilled holes on the mud flap should clearly align with the pre-installed wheel well fasteners.

Remove Factory Fasteners

Begin with removing the factory fasteners with the required tools. Make sure to save these for later!

Once you've identified which fasteners will serve as the installation points for your mud flap, you can go ahead and remove them using either a screwdriver or ratchet set (depending on your vehicle's make and model). Make sure to hang onto these screws or bolts and any washers or nuts that came with them, as they will be needed later.

5. Install Mud Flaps

Without QuickTurn™ Fasteners

Once the mud flap is aligned, reinstall the factory fasteners.

If the mud flaps for your vehicle include any QuickTurn™ fasteners, please skip this section and move to the section below. Line up the holes on the mud flap with the holes on your wheel well. While holding the mud flap in position, reinstall the previously removed factory fasteners and tighten so there is no movement or give in the mud flap.

With QuickTurn™ Fasteners

Tighten any QuickTurn fasteners first before tightening the reinstalled factory fasteners for a proper fit!

If the mud flaps for your vehicle include any QuickTurn™ fasteners, make sure they are turned to the unlocked position before installing your mud flap. Once unlocked, line up the holes on the mud flap with the holes on your wheel well. While holding the mud flap in position, reinstall the previously removed factory fasteners to a loose fit.

Pull the mud flap up from the bottom against the fender and rotate the QuickTurn™ fastener with the supplied hex key. The fastener will rotate to the "lock" position and stop. Continue turning to tighten the MudFlap onto the fender. Once the fastener is tight, press the mud flap firmly against the fender and fully tighten the fasteners until there is no movement or give and the mud flap fits flush against the contours of your vehicle.

Installing the Passenger Side Mud Flap

The passenger side mud flap is marked on the back with an "RH." Turn your wheels fully to the right and simply repeat steps 3 through 5.

Congratulations you've completed installing your new WeatherTech MudFlaps
